沖縄生まれ、東京、岐阜、兵庫と転々として育つ。11/12生まれ。O型。
シンガーソングライターとしての活動と並行して様々なアーティストのレコーディングやライブサポートに参加。またアレンジャーやサウンドプロデューサーとしても評価されておりレコーディング作品やCM作品も多数。
ローズ、ウーリッツアー、ハモンド、アナログシンセなどビンテージ楽器のスペシャリストとしても知られている。ルーツミュージックから音響系まで実に幅広い音楽的バックボーンは多くのミュージシャンから信頼を得ている。サポート、プロデュースワークの一方、デビュー当初から続けているユニット『kotez& yancy』では独自のブルース、ニューオリンズピアノでルーツミュージックファンを魅了し続けている。j-popシーンを代表するロックピアノプロジェクト『CRAZY FINGERS』にも初期から参加。ルーツミュージックとポップスシーンをまたいで活動するスタイルは日本においては非常に貴重な存在。jazzやblues、soul、R& Bなどのルーツミュージックからシンガーソングライター、昨今人気のサーフ系アコースティックからエレクトロニカまでその活動範囲は多彩である。 ルーツミュージックのフィールドではDr Jhonやオル・ダラのフロントアクトを務め、Otis RushやBuddy Guyとも共演。かと思えば、八代亜紀さんのミニアルバムを全曲サウンドプロデュースして周りを驚かせるなど本人はいたってマイペース。
またビンテージ楽器と録音機器を揃えた自宅スタジオ『SUNNY PLACE』にて自らの音楽的ルーツである70年代のS・S・W（シンガーソングライター）を強く感じさせる作風で自らの作品の録音や他アーティストの録音も手掛けており、サウンド、アレンジメントや肌触りまで、そのマニアックなこだわりぶりにコアなファンを持つ。- レコーディング及びツアーサポートワーク抜粋

YANCY is a singer-songwriter who also supports recordings for several major artists in Japan. He is recognized as an arranger/a sound producer and has taken part of a lot of recordings and commercial music creation. He is also known as a specialist for vintage instruments such as Rhodes, Wulizer, Hammond organ and analog synthesizer. With his specialty, he provides expert advice to instrument makers and writes articles for magazines such as "Keyboard magazine".
Because of his broad knowledge which ranges from roots music to electronica type of music, he receives tremendous trust from a lot of professional musicians. His passion for music started when he heard YMO. He immediately started copying their music with his mini-synthesizer. He immersed himself in blues piano when he was in high school. While he was in university, He started planning seriously to become a professional pianist and withdrew from school temporarily to stay in the United States mainly in west coast. He also stayed in New Orleans.
During recent years, besides his producing/supporting works, he has been performing as a unit "kotez & Yancy" which has been continued ever since he became a pro. The unit offers very unique blues with New Orleans piano attracting many fans of roots music. He also performs in a rock piano project "CRAZY FINGERS" which represents Japanese pop music scene since the band was made.
His style of musicianship which ranges from pop to roots music is considered very unique in Japan. His works include so many different types of music such as; jazz, blues, soul, R & B, smooth acoustic, electronic. He performed at the opening set for Dr. John and Olu Dara and performed with Otis Rush and Buddy Guy. On the other hand, he produced the whole mini-album for Aki Yashiro - a major Japanese enka singer. His deep knowledge in different fields has surprised quite a few people around music industry.
In his private life, he is fond of vintage cars, vintage fashion and vintage architectures. He pursues what he likes so much that he even restores furniture, cars and instruments on his own occasionally. He also learned about recording equipments, engineering and mixing mainly by himself. Lately, he has been studying a variety of ways to express with analog sound using the latest digital tools.
He established his base at his own studio "SUNNY PLACE2" with vintage instruments and recording equipments in a suburb near Tokyo. The studio/his residence is in an environment surrounded by a lot of nature creating a very relaxing atmosphere.
Born in Okinawa on November,12. He lived in Tokyo, Gifu and Hyogo.
